POLICE: Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck By SUV Driven By Melbourne Man on Sarno Road

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne police officers responded Friday to the 2800 block of Sarno Road in response to a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.
“Upon their arrival, officers discovered the pedestrian had sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash,” said Melbourne Police Cmdr. Mark Renkens.
“The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital by Brevard County Fire Rescue, where he ultimately succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.”
Cmdr. Renkens said the initial investigation revealed a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 62-year-old Paul Miller of Melbourne, was traveling eastbound on Sarno Road in the outside travel lane and passing another vehicle. The pedestrian darted southbound
across Sarno Road into the path of both vehicles.
“The pedestrian darted southbound across Sarno Road into the path of both vehicles when the Equinox struck the pedestrian as he attempted to cross the outside travel lane,” said Cmdr. Renkens.
Cmdr. Renkens said impairment on drugs or alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash on the part of the driver and the crash is
still under investigation.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
