Viera Hawks Boys Soccer Advances to 6A State Championship in Dramatic Fashion, Defeats St. Thomas Aquinas 2-1

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – The Viera Hawks boys soccer team advanced to the Class 6A State Championship in dramatic fashion after defeating St. Thomas Aquinas 2-1 in Viera on Saturday.

The Hawks (20-0-1) will now play Fort Myers (21-2-1) on February 25 in the state championship at Spec Martin Stadium in DeLand. Game will start at 4:05 p.m.

Viera needed every second possible to advance to the state championship after scoring two goals in the final 85-seconds of the game.

Down 1-0 at the half, the Hawks utilized great defense and a composed approach to finally strike through by scoring the equalizer goal made by Yordan Torres (assisted by Sebastian May) with only 1:25 left in the game.

As the game looked to be heading to overtime tied 1-1, the Hawks delivered the dagger by scoring the game’s winning goal with just 21 seconds left, thanks to a May goal scored on a set piece outside the box.
