While Florida Waits for Sports Betting, Here’s What You Should Know

In 2021, after a series of legal proceedings, sports betting in Florida was put to a halt.
This meant that the Hard Rock Sportsbook was taken down in December of the same year. This was a clear disappointment to many sports fans, as they no longer could place bets on their favorite teams. Although some expect that sports betting will be up and running soon, it might be too soon to be checking the sportsbooks in anticipation.
The sportsbooks
Right now, no online sportsbooks are allowed in Florida. This includes sportsbooks like Hard Rock, which was suspended three weeks after its release. Now, Florida betting fans are waiting to see when the sportsbook will be able to operate again. Meanwhile, Floridians can check out the top sportsbooks that are available in the US, since it is possible to play from almost every state, and it’s possible that legislation will get passed soon. The sportsbooks provide a big variety of bets and unique play options, some of which maybe weren’t available in Florida sportsbooks.
The current state
Unfortunately due to legal issues, sports betting in Florida has been paused since 2018. The Seminole Tribe of Florida, which ran a gaming establishment in 1981, signed a so-called compact with Governor Ron DeSantis in 2021, where sports betting was legalized. But other gambling facilities sued, so the compact could not go through. Therefore, it was ruled that the compact broke Federal Law.
In December of 2022, the federal government and the Seminole Tribe of Florida gave out arguments in terms of online sports betting. As of now, players are waiting for the Supreme Court to decide the legality of sports betting in Florida.
How to bet
But for the day that sports betting is legalized, players can anticipate how to bet and do some research. And if it’s the first time, there are some rules to be aware of. When wagering on a game, the odds are determined by how likely an outcome is.
