BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Andrew Jackson Middle School teacher Alexandria Wicker has been honored with the Maitland P. Simmons Memorial Award for New Teachers from the National Science Teachers Association.

Wicker is a seventh-grade science teacher at Andrew Jackson Middle School and was awarded the Teacher of the Year Award in 2022.

After having worked in state parks, she decided to share her love of science with students and brought that passion to the classroom. She has been teaching for four years and says she is grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of her students.

The award is one of many that the NSTA uses to honor K–12 teachers, principals, professors, and other science education professionals for their outstanding work and achievement in science education.

Awardees will be recognized during a special celebration taking place during the NSTA National Conference on Science Education in Atlanta, Georgia, on March 24.

Andrew Jackson Middle School is located in Titusville and has 566 students in seventh and eighth grades.
