Eastern Florida State Theatre to Present William Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ at Simpkins Fine Arts Center in Cocoa

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College Theatre Department will present William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest,” directed by Selena Ambush on Friday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 1 at 2 p.m. at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 2 at 2 p.m.

The performance will be on the main stage of EFSC Simpkins Fine Arts Center, Building 4 on the Cocoa Campus.

To purchase advanced tickets for $10 General admission, or day of for $15. Students are free with their EFSC ID.

With elements of both a tragedy and a comedy, “The Tempest” tells a story involving an unjust act, the usurpation of Prospero’s throne by his brother, and Prospero’s quest to re-establish justice by restoring himself to power.

The Cocoa Campus is located at 1519 Clearlake Road in Cocoa.

The Eastern Florid State College Theatre Department offers courses for transfer to upper division as electives or as preparation for a career in theatre. Teamed with the musical opportunities at EFSC, these courses also can prepare a student for a career in Musical Theatre.

Acting I and Acting II classes acquaint students with basic acting techniques.

These classes use monologues and scene study to apply acting techniques to a variety of types of plays including American Realism, Greek, Elizabethan and French farce.

Courses in Voice and Movement, Audition Techniques and Directing, prepare students for the advanced work.

Stagecraft classes and Theatre Rehearsal Performance classes culminate in a full stage production to complete the student’s course offerings.

Rehearsal technique, a professional attitude, a strong work ethic and the will to improve are essential for the successful acting student.
