(SI.COM) – The Texas A&M Aggies have landed their first major commitment via the transfer portal this offseason. The Aggies are adding UIC Flames transfer guard Jace Carter, per reports Wednesday from On3.

Playing for the University of Illinois at Chicago the past two seasons, Carter emerged as one of the top scorers in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Carter averaged 16.6 points and seven rebounds this past season, as his scoring numbers were good for sixth-best in the conference. He also led the MVC with 1.8 steals per game, meaning coach Buzz Williams is adding some elite perimeter defense to his backcourt.

“It just felt like home,” he told On3. “All those guys over there love each other and love to work hard, and those are my type of people. They made me and my family feel like we were apart of them and we loved the atmosphere of College Station.
