Enjoy Tiki-Style Barbecue at Dolphins Waterfront Bar & Grill ON Merritt Island

Hopping on a plane and jetting off to somewhere exotic is easier than ever. However, plenty of us are feeling the pinch at the moment and looking to cut down on unnecessary expenses wherever possible.

Thankfully, we live in Florida, where there’s practically guaranteed sunshine and an absolute plethora of entertainment and activities. So, if you’re hoping to save a little money on your vacation bill this year and get to know your home state better, then what better way to do that than with a staycation.

Fuel Up at Metro Diner, Jacksonville

If you want to get the maximum sightseeing out of your day then you’ll have a lot more fun doing it if you’ve got a full belly. Metro Diner is the place to go if you like a hearty breakfast with a contemporary twist. This laid-back eatery has been featured on many shows, including Diners, Drive Ins and Dives, for its comfort food concoctions, but our choice is the bacon and maple bread pudding.

The pudding itself is light, fluffy and delicious, dotted throughout with crispy bits of maple cured bacon and then drizzled in a delectable bacon and maple icing. It’s sweet and salty and perfect for those days when you want something naughty in the morning. Plus at just a smidge over $5, it’s easy on the wallet too.

Enjoy Casino Gaming at the Seminole Classic Casino, Hollywood

If Vegas tends to be your getaway of choice then a visit to the casino is a must for your hometown vacation. The Seminole Classic Casino Hollywood has an abundance of slot machines, as well as a smaller selection of classic table games.

If you’re bringing along a loved one who’s not as clued up on how casino games work, then snagging a few free spins online and showing them the ropes on a casino site beforehand can help them feel confident when you arrive in person. Even if you don’t manage to sneak in any online practice, this is a super friendly casino where croupiers will be more than happy to help you.

The pork roll is also delicious.

Once you feel you’ve beaten the roulette wheel, it’s time for a spot of dinner. Dolphins Waterfront Bar and Grill is located right on the banks of the Canaveral Barge Canal so it makes the perfect spot for holiday dining. They have a fun and quirky tiki theme and fire up the grill every day to barbecue deliciously fresh meat and fish. there are plenty of food options here, but our very favorite dishes are the fresh catch sandwich and the Haupia pie.

The sandwich is filled with freshly caught and blackened fish sat on top of a Sriracha remoulade which is just the right level of spicy. There’s a pork option too for those who aren’t seafood fans and although the citrus slaw is delicious, you can swap for Sriracha remoulade if you ask nicely! Top your meal off with a slice of Haupia pie for $9 and you’ll be in Tiki food heaven.
