BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA– Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) volunteers donned green T-shirts one Saturday in March and met at the Space Coast’s Alan Shepard Park with a single mission: clean up their beloved local beach.
Each year, thousands of residents and tourists visit the Space Coast to enjoy its beaches, but low water quality and rising pollution levels leave the coastline vulnerable.
Together, FPL volunteers worked alongside Keep Brevard Beautiful to collect and properly dispose of trash, preserving the local park.
Keep Brevard Beautiful is a nonprofit organization developed to motivate, educate and activate community partners to reduce litter and recycle to ultimately preserve the local Brevard environment.
“FPL is committed to environmental stewardship and protecting Florida’s wildlife,” said Pam Rauch, FPL vice president of external affairs and economic development. “We hope this local volunteer event will play a key role in preserving the Space Coast and all it has to offer.”
FPL volunteers participated during Power to Care, a yearly statewide effort where FPL employees give back to their communities. This year marked the 15th anniversary of Power to Care, with more than 20 projects led by hundreds of employees and their families in more than 10 counties across Florida.
Last year, FPL employees contributed more than 46,000 hours in their local communities, supporting more than 2,000 nonprofit organizations.
