Melbourne Police Make Arrest in Shooting, Charge Perp With Aggravated Battery With Deadly Weapon, Neglect of a Child

POLICE: Caldwell used a revolver-style handgun to shoot the victim in the leg

Melbourne police officers arrested D’nard Caldwell, 28, after a shooting incident in the 300 block of Crown Bl. Police said Caldwell used a revolver-style handgun to shoot the victim in the leg. During the altercation, the victim’s three children, ages 2, 3 and 4, were inside the residence where the firearm was discharged.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne police officers arrested D’nard Caldwell, 28, after a shooting incident in the 300 block of Crown Bl.

According to police, on Sunday, May 14, officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of Crown Bl. for a report of a gunshot victim.

Once on scene, the victim was identified, and the injury was minor. After an extensive investigation, a suspect was identified as Caldwell.

Police said Caldwell used a revolver-style handgun to shoot the victim in the leg. During the altercation, the victim’s three children, ages 2, 3 and 4, were inside the residence where the firearm was discharged.

“At around 7 p.m., Caldwell was located in the area of Harvard Circle and Straus Court and Caldwell was taken into custody at that time,” said a Melbourne police spokesperson. “He was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and three counts of neglect of a child.”

Caldwell was booked and turned over to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
