Two People in Critical Condition, One Person Injured After Shooting in Downtown Melbourne

Melbourne Police  responded to the 800 block of E New Haven Ave in reference to a shooting early Saturday morning in downtown Melbourne that left two people in critical condition and one person injured. According to police officials, the shooting took place at 1:23 a.m., and the downtown nightclubs were open, and there were many people in the area.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police  responded to the 800 block of E. New Haven Ave in reference to a shooting early Saturday morning in downtown Melbourne that left two people in critical condition and one person injured.

According to police officials, the shooting took place at 1:23 a.m., and the downtown nightclubs were open, and there were many people in the area.

According to police, a fight broke out in the street, which led to unknown person(s) shooting at each other.

“As officers arrived on the scene, they encountered a large crowd and located a crime scene, however, no victims were located,” said a Melbourne police spokesperson.

A short time later, officers were dispatched to Holmes Regional Medical Center as 3 males with gunshot injuries were brought there for medical treatment.

“As officers converged on the hospital, a car dropping off one victim was stopped by the police. However, two males inside the car, who were not injured, fled on foot,” said a Melbourne Police spokesperson.

Officers gave chase and were able to arrest them both for resisting an officer. Other than dropping off a victim at the hospital, it is unclear at this time as to the extent of their involvement in the shooting.

Police officials said numerous people had been interviewed. However, a suspect has not been identified. Of the three victims, two are in critical condition, and one is non-critical.

Detectives are continuing to work on this investigation. The names of the two males arrested will be released in a future press release, and the information on the victims will be released when possible.

Due to the amount people in the area at the time of the shooting, it is believed there are more witnesses to these events.
