Brain Power Wellness Reviews Why Laughter is the Best Medicine

By  //  June 30, 2023

Laughter serves as a vital component for students as they approach the end of the school year and transition into the much-awaited summer break.

The end of the school year often brings a sense of relief and accomplishment, and laughter plays a pivotal role in fostering a positive and joyful atmosphere.

As students prepare for the sunny days of summer, Brain Power Wellness reviews how laughter becomes an essential tool to unwind, recharge, and embrace the freedom and adventures that lie ahead.

“Alright! It feels awesome! Laughing is really the best medicine,” said Brain Power Wellness staff member Coach Marcus after demonstrating the school-based organization’s One-Minute Laughing Exercise. In the video, before he and another colleague get their giggles going for thirty seconds, Marcus explains that laughing reduces stress, elevates circulation, and makes the overall body feel healthier. “It reduces stress, enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs, and muscles, and increases the endorphins released by your brain!”

As part of its focus, Brain Power Wellness strives to embrace more focused, healthier, and happier school environments, which is why the organization’s staff members love to laugh and share the gift of laughter with teachers, students, parents, and administrators. Brain Power Wellness leaders provide schools access to the numerous benefits of laughter through activities such as the aforementioned laughing exercise.

The Benefits of Laughter

Laughter is a powerful tool for promoting health on many levels, among them a wide range of mental, physical, and social emotional wellness. It brings joy, builds resilience, improves mood, and helps relieve tension, stress, and anxiety. Laughing also shifts one’s perspective, making it easier to handle stressful situations.

Research has shown that laughter can provide numerous physical benefits, including reducing pain levels, releasing tension in tight muscles, preventing heart disease, lowering stress hormones, and boosting immunity. And just like physical exercise, the more you exercise your sense of humor, the stronger it becomes and the more benefits you’ll experience.

Brain Power Wellness reviews the science behind laughter. Research has shown that participating in laughing exercises has helped improve teamwork by bringing people closer together in healthy ways. Laughter has a natural ability to disarm conflict and create a bonding experience, making it the perfect activity to boost morale and unite your team.

Research conducted by the Association for Applied and Therapeutic has revealed that childhood years are filled with considerably more laughter on a daily basis as compared to adult years. As we grow older, increasing responsibilities and accountability can lead to a more serious outlook on life and a commensurate decrease in laughter. In fact, a group of humor strategists in said Association report that by age twenty-three, our ability to laugh starts to decline.

Finding Ways to Increase Laughter in Daily Life

Laughter is an important part of all BPW programs, including the various Brain Power Wellness retreats.  Other ways to reach a healthy level of daily laughter include buying and reading a joke book, going to a comedy show, watching funny movies, or listening to humorous podcasts. The bottom line is that adults need to be more mindful of finding ways to incorporate humor in day-to-day life.
