Brevard County Commission to Hold Special Meeting June 28 to Discuss Constitutional Officers’ Budgets

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – In November 2008, 73.12% of Brevard County voters approved, via referendum, a limitation of growth in ad valorem revenue, also known as the charter cap.

This cap, defined in Section 2.9.3.1 of the County Charter, limits the increase of ad valorem revenue to the lesser of 3% or the change in the Consumer Price Index.

The Brevard County Supervisor of Elections has requested a budget increase for FY23-24 of 546.66% above the charter cap, while the Brevard County Property Appraiser requested a budget increase that is 124.33% above the charter cap.

On June 12, the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners convened a special meeting to offer direction to the County Manager during the budget preparation process.

The discussion focused on Constitutional Office budgets and the Board elected to send a questionnaire to the Property Appraiser and Supervisor of Elections regarding their previous budgets due to the lack of transparency.

Also, on June 12, Brevard County Property Appraiser Dana Blickley requested a special meeting of the Board of County Commissioners, which will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday June 28, in the Commission Chambers at 2725 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Bldg. C., in Viera
