BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Members of the Satellite Beach Police Department participated in the annual S.R. “Speedy” DeWitt Tactical Firearms Challenge Shooting Competition.

Sergeant Eric Anderson, Corporal Philip Martinez, and Officer Joseph Sherwood represented the Satellite Beach Police Department at the 2023 Annual S.R. “Speedy” DeWitt Tactical Firearms Challenge Shooting Competition, which was hosted by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) team.

The competition consists of two-person teams engaging in a handgun combat course and two additional individual competitions. The competition is open to all sworn personnel from any Brevard County law enforcement agency and all agency employees.

The S.R. “Speedy” DeWitt Tactical Firearms Challenge was created to honor the memory of BCSO Chief Deputy Sellen Robert “Speedy” DeWitt Jr., a legendary BCSO law enforcement officer that investigated 300 homicides and successfully dodged six bullets during his career.

All proceeds from “Speedy” DeWitt benefit the Brevard County Public Safety Charity (BCPSC) to support Public Safety Officers and their families during a time of need.
