Former Bayside Bear, Eastern Florida State Pitcher Drafted by Cleveland Guardians in the MLB Draft

Walters was selected No. 62 overall in the draft

Former Eastern Florida State College and University of Miami pitcher Andrew Walters was drafted by the Cleveland Guardians during the Major League Baseball Draft Sunday evening. (EFSC image)

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Former Eastern Florida State College and University of Miami pitcher Andrew Walters was drafted by the Cleveland Guardians during the Major League Baseball Draft Sunday evening.

Walters was selected No. 62 overall in the draft.

The Bayside High graduate pitched for the Titans in the 2020 season, starting four games and struck out 26 in 18 innings with a 2.00 ERA. Walters had a 13.00 k per nine rate with the Titans.

Walters went to the University of Miami and had a 1.41 ERA in 71 games, striking out 170 hitters in 102 innings and had 26 saves.

The right-hander becomes the first Titan to be drafted since 2017 when Tommy Romero in the 15th round to the Mariners. Overall Walters is the sixth player to be drafted in the first five rounds in Titans history and the highest since 1993.
