BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Palm Bay Fire Rescue B-shift crews from Fire Stations 2, 4, and 6 responded to a brush fire in the compound on Thursday afternoon.

“Just moments later, Station 1 was dispatched to a vehicle accident where it was reported a car drove over the US1 embankment down into the river,” said Palm Bay Fire spokesperson.

According to officials, the brush fire quickly grew to nearly 10 acres as it was fueled by strong winds from the nearby storms.

Reports suggest that additional Stations and the Division of Forestry were dispatched to assist.

Members from Station 1 worked quickly to deploy rescue measures to remove the passenger from a car that was partially submerged in the river.

“Both calls were mitigated within an hour, and during that time, our other PBFD crews worked together to handle calls both in their assigned areas as well as in the areas normally handled by those working the US1 crash and brush fire incidents.”

“Needless to say, the early evening was a busy one, but the shift pulled together to answer all calls for service, throughout the city,” said Palm Bay Fire spokesperson.
