Viera Hawks Star Catcher Alex Sosa Turns Down MLB Offer to Play College Baseball at NC State

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Former Viera Hawks star catcher Alex Sosa opted to play collegiate baseball at North Carolina State and forgo the opportunity to enter the Major League Baseball early.
Sosa was the No. 6 ranked catching prospect and No. 56 ranked player in the country in the 2023 MLB Draft.
According to 247 Sports, Sosa confirmed that he was contacted by an MLB team and turned down an offer worth more than seven figures in the early stages of the draft.
Sosa committed to the Wolfpack back in 2020. He chose NC State over multiple Division I programs such as Miami, Florida and Florida State.
The former Viera catcher is coming off a huge season with a batting average of .471, 33 hits, and 26 RBIs.
The Hawks baseball team finished the season as FHSAA State Runner-Up for the first time in program history.
