Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Releases Identity of Man Shot Dead in Unincorporated Cocoa

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of the man who was shot and killed in unincorporated Cocoa, on Friday, August 11, 2023.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of the man who was shot and killed in unincorporated Cocoa, on Friday, August 11, 2023.

The man is identified as 58-year-old Franklin Orwig Sr. of Cocoa.

“The investigation began when deputies responded to a residence on Burgess Avenue at approximately 9:45 p.m., Friday evening, after the Sheriff’s Office was advised that a man had been shot,” said Tod Goodyear of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, deputies located a male victim who was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing as agents from the Homicide and Crime Scene Units are conducting interviews and examining evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Based on the preliminary investigation, it is believed that the persons involved in the incident were known to each other and there is no danger to the general public.
