BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – National Hurricane Center has released a new update about the disturbance developing in the Gulf that is expected to impact Florida and nearby states by next week.

According to the 2 p.m. report released by the National Hurricane Center, the system is currently carrying showers and thunderstorms associated with an area of low pressure located near the Yucatan Channel, where it will continue to gradually become better organized over the next couple of days.

Experts at the National Hurricane Center say if this trend continues, advisories will be initiated on this system later today.

The system is expected to move very slowly northward into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico during the next couple of days. Heavy rains are likely over
portions of western Cuba and the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. People in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, western Cuba, and Florida should monitor the progress of this system, says National Hurricane Center.

The disturbance has a 90-percent chance of formation in the next 48 hours.
