BREVARD COUNTY • SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA – Winning five Tony awards after its Broadway opening in 1973, Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music has been called a gem in two acts.
The audience can expect a rich musical experience and an expanded orchestra during the 7 p.m. Brevard show at Satellite High School Performing Arts Center, 300 Scorpion Court in Satellite Beach.
Fresh off performances in Orlando and complete with costuming and digital sets, A Little Night Music will be presented by the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, August 26 with a professional cast from Central Florida Vocal Arts.
Set in the enchanted birch groves of Sweden, the Sondheim classic sings and waltzes its way through the lives of mismatched couples who make some very surprising discoveries about their true desires.
In an ever-thickening plot, the couples come together for “A Weekend in the Country,” where anything can happen to the very young, the very foolish, and the very old. Sondheim’s witty masterpiece clocks in at two hours and 45 minutes and features the memorable, “Send in the Clowns.”
A film version of Sondheim’s musical was released in 1977, starring Elizabeth Taylor. $30 tickets for A Little Night Music are available through the orchestra website SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at Marine Bank & Trust in Suntree.
Tickets at the door are $35. Passes for the entire 2023-24 performing season are still available, as well as ticket “flex packs,” good for any five subscription concerts. Concertgoers aged 18 and under or with a college ID are admitted free to every SCSO concert.
Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Conductor and Artistic Director, Aaron T. Collins expects an appreciative audience for A Little Night Music, ranked among the most beloved of American musicals.
“We have a lot of Broadway lovers in our audience and they will all want to see this,” said Collins.”
And we couldn’t be more excited about working once again with the talented members of Central Florida Vocal Arts. The cast is incredible, the songs are gorgeous – and it’s all backed by our full orchestra playing one of Sondheim’s best.”
The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra is one of only a handful of U.S. orchestras to perform year-round. Concertgoers aged 18 and under or with a college ID are admitted free to every SCSO concert.
