Authorities Release Update on Fatal Bicycle Crash That Killed Melbourne Man on Wickham Road

Authorities have released an update on the fatal crash that happened last week and killed 32-year-old Christopher Blanchard from Melbourne.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Authorities have released an update on the fatal crash that happened last week (Aug. 27) and killed 32-year-old Christopher Blanchard from Melbourne.

Melbourne police say they responded to the area of Wickham Road and Aurora Road on August 27 regarding a vehicle versus gas-powered bicycle crash.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Blanchard operating the gas-powered bicycle had entered the intersection from westbound Aurora Road and violated the right of way of a vehicle traveling southbound on Wickham Road, attempting to make a left turn to travel east on Aurora Road, according Sgt. Daniel Desormier.

Blanchard was struck by a GMC pickup truck and sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash.

The bicyclist was transported to Holmes Regional Medical center where he later succumbed to his injuries on September 1.
