BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Last year, 406 people were killed by drunk drivers in the state of Florida and another 3,000 plus were injured in alcohol related car crashes caused by irresponsible people who are too selfish to do the right thing.

That is the exact reason that our agency goes after those who drink and drive and thanks to one of our great citizens who “saw something and said something,” earlier this morning Deputy David Chairez and Field Training Officer Scott McCroskey were able to take this guy…Eli K. Kinsman, off our streets before he killed someone.

The incident started around 3:30 a.m. when Deputies Chairez and McCroskey responded to a report of a reckless driver in the area of Pineda Causeway and Wickham Road.

A citizen had reported that a vehicle was swerving heavily and they had observed the front tire blow as it hit a curb.

Just a few minutes later Deputies Chairez and McCroskey located the vehicle in the area of N. Wickham Road and Jordan Blass Drive.

The Deputies immediately observed the vehicle swerving heavily, striking the curb, and crossing lanes multiple times.

As Deputies initiated a traffic stop, the driver, Eli Kinsman refused to stop the vehicle at which time a vehicle apprehension was initiated and the vehicle ultimately stopped near Wickham Road and Hook Place.

In addition to their prior observations, the Deputies also observed that Kinsman’s vehicle had a blown tire from where he had previously struck the curb causing damage to the vehicle’s tire.

Kinsman was taken into custody for DUI and when subsequently administered a breath test, let’s just say the results were “staggering”.

Folks, there is absolutely no reason for someone in today’s world to get behind the wheel of a car after drinking when there are so many safe options out there to make sure that everyone arrives home alive.

Let me be clear…if you drink and drive in Brevard County we as a community are coming after you so that you end up at “Ivey’s Ironbar Lodge!!”

DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE SO EVERYONE CAN ARRIVE ALIVE!!
