BREVARD COUNTY, FL  –  The Eastern Florida State College women’s cross-country team will be competing at the Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Alabama.

The women’s team will compete in the 5K race against some of the best teams in the South as teams from NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and junior college teams will be in the race.

The Titans are coming off of an 11th-place finish in the FAU Cross Country Invitational and will look to improve this weekend.

“I am optimistic about how they will do against the other junior colleges in the field,” Eastern Florida State College women’s cross country coach Doug Butler said. “I just want to see that we are heading in the right direction, I want to see the girls drop their times from last week and just show improvement.”

The course was originally a golf course that has been turned into a cross-country course and will be the host of the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in November.

“We are probably going to just run five girls this week but those five are very good and I want to see what they can do,” Butler said. “We didn’t run that well in Boca and they still had some good times, averaging 21 minutes which is faster than we did last year.”

The women’s race will begin at 8:30 a.m.
