BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A Brevard County man was arrested on Tuesday for Attempted Murder after stabbing a woman in Port St. John, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities identified the suspect as 39-year-old Larry Speer Jr.
According to Sheriff Wayne Ivey, Speer was arrested after stabbing a woman at a home in Port St. John, committed aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and committed aggravated battery on a person (65-years-old or older) and violation of probation on-site.
The incident happened around 9:57 p.m. when a woman was heard yelling in her bedroom by her daughter, deputies say.
The daughter and a family member went into the bedroom where they saw Speer choking the woman and stabbing her.
Sheriff Ivey said Speer went back into the bedroom and stabbed the woman again. Speer then left the home when he realized 911 had been called.
Speer was later located at a motel in Titusville by deputies where he locked himself in a bathroom armed with a machete before being taken into custody.
Speer is no stranger to law enforcement as he has 15 felony charges and seven charges guilty of violation of probation.
Sheriff Ivey challenged the justice system to do the job it was intended to do and make sure Speer never has the chance to harm another member of the community again.
The victims in Tuesday’s incident are expected recover, according to BCSO. However, the stabbing victim is in serious condition.
