BREVARD COUNTY • CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – United States Coast Guard Commander Sector for Jacksonville, Janet Espino-Young, met with members of the Canaveral Propeller Club to discuss the crucial role the Coast Guard plays in maritime safety and security.

Her sector covers 40,000 square miles of ocean and inland waterways. She highlighted the critical missions the Coast Guard carries out including search & rescue; marine transportation system management; and homeland security.

Statistics from last year showed the importance of cyber security and how this has become a big part of the Coast Guard mission in protecting marine terminals; facilities; and vessels.

Theresa Clifton, President of the Canaveral Propeller Club, stated, “The security at our Port parallels what the Jacksonville Port is also doing showing our community that a well-designed system of regimes, awareness, and operational capabilities creates overlapping domestic and international safety nets.”

She noted by describing behind-the-scenes actions by the Coast Guard educates our community about the efforts they take that are vital for safeguarding lives, protecting the environment, and maintaining order at sea.

The Propeller Club is a business network dedicated to the promotion of the maritime industry, commerce, and global trade. They help foster relationship-building and communication among Port Canaveral stakeholders, the maritime industry, local businesses, and the broader community.

The Club hosts monthly luncheons that feature guest speakers (open to the public); and hosts special events: the annual ShrimpFeast; July fireworks dinner; and an annual Christmas Party.
