EDITOR’S NOTE: Olympic 3X3 basketball is played on one half of a basketball court where two teams of three players compete. Both teams attack and defend the same hoop, depending on who has possession of the ball. The winner is the team with the highest score at the end of 10 minutes or the first team to reach 21 points. The three‑point line in conventional basketball serves as the two-point line in 3X3 basketball, with shots made outside the line earning two points and those inside it one.
PARIS – Former college basketball standout Canyon Barry hit the game-winning shot in the U.S. men’s basketball 3×3 team to defeat France on Friday.
Barry, who is the son of NBA Hall of Fame guard Rick Barry and works for Brevard County-based L3Harris, carried his team and scored 15 points to help Team USA defeat France 21-19 in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
France led by five points at one point in the game. Each game is played for 10 minutes or first to 21 points.
A fixture on USA Basketball’s 3×3 Men’s National Teams over the years, Barry has long been dedicated to the sport. He has represented the U.S. in two FIBA 3×3 World Cups, two FIBA 3×3 Men’s AmeriCorps, and one Pan American Games. On the FIBA Men’s World Tour, Barry played for Team Miami (2023) and Princeton (2019-22). Barry also has 5-on-5 experience, playing internationally and in the NBA G League out of college.
An underhand free-throw shooter like his father, Barry graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in physics from the College of Charleston. He graduated from Florida with a master’s degree in nuclear engineering.
