BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA — The Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority has filed a legal complaint against Space Perspective Inc., an aerospace company planning to offer luxury spaceflights, according to Brevard County court records.

The complaint, which is dated Jan. 14, alleges that the company is behind on rent payments totaling $90,295 for the period between May 1 and Nov. 12, 2024.

A summons signed on Jan. 17 mandates that Space Perspective vacate the premises by Jan. 22.

This legal action follows a default notice issued by the airport authority on Dec. 2, citing the alleged unpaid rent and warning of possible lease termination and eviction. The notice also accused Space Perspective of a history of late and partial rent payments.

The case has been assigned to 18th Judicial Circuit Judge Benjamin Garagozlo, with Adam Bird representing the Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority.

Space Perspective, which gained significant attention in October 2023 for securing an investment from Virgin Group co-founder Sir Richard Branson, has been making strides in the commercial spaceflight industry. While the sum of Branson’s investment remains undisclosed, he was announced as a co-pilot for the company’s first crewed flight.

The company’s ambitious plans include luxury space travel experiences aboard the Spaceship Neptune capsule.

Their first uncrewed test flight of the capsule, named Excelsior, successfully launched from the Marine Spaceport Voyager vessel off the coast of St. Petersburg on Sept. 15, 2023. Space Perspective reported a seamless flight from takeoff to landing.

Space Perspective’s investment on the Space Coast is planned to total more than $38 million and spur the creation of approximately 240 full-time permanent jobs by the end of 2026, with an annual average wage of $80,000.

Representatives for Space Perspective have not publicly commented on the legal complaint or the alleged unpaid rent. The Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority’s legal action casts uncertainty on the company’s immediate future as it works to establish itself in the competitive commercial space industry.
