Melbourne Man Dies After Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash on Wickham Road

A tragic single-vehicle crash on Monday afternoon has claimed the life of a 65-year-old Melbourne resident.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A tragic single-vehicle crash on Monday afternoon has claimed the life of a 65-year-old Melbourne resident.

At approximately 2:34 p.m. on Monday, Melbourne police officers responded to the scene of a crash on Wickham Road, just north of Fountainhead.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered a 2006 Dodge Ram that had collided with a fire hydrant.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was extricated and transported to Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the Dodge was traveling south on Wickham Road when it veered across multiple lanes of traffic, eventually leaving the roadway and striking the hydrant.

Authorities believe the crash may have been the result of a medical episode, as there is no evidence suggesting alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.

The Melbourne Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit is conducting a Traffic Homicide Investigation.

Officials are awaiting notification of next of kin before releasing the driver’s identity.
