BREVARD COUNTY • FLORIDA — The Eastern Florida State College baseball team picked up a conference win Thursday night behind a strong performance from Owen Simmons.

The Titans improved to 15-13 in the Citrus Conference with the 5-3 victory over the State College of Florida-Manatee at Bruce Bochy Field.

Simmons pitched eight-plus innings, allowing two runs to pick up his fifth victory of the season. The sophomore struck out six and walked two and allowed just one extra base hit.

Offensively the Titans got things going fast, Kevin Smith led off with a walk and then Jeff Davis hit an RBI double to make it 1-0. An infield single by Bo Tabola put two on and then both would score on a single by Bryce Jackson. Jackson would later score on Jason Mack’s single and the Titans led 4-0.

Eastern Florida State College would add a run in the sixth inning when Shane Thomas singled and scored on Mack’s single.

It would remain 5-0 until the ninth inning when the Manatees put the first two on to end Simmons night. Houston Wills would come on and struggle a bit but with three runs home and the bases loaded, he would strike out Holden Brauner to pick up the save.

SCF-Manatee dropped to 17-11 in the conference.
