Eastern Florida State Softball Player Avery Velazquez Receives Honors After Banner Season

BREVARD COUNTY • FLORIDA — Eastern Florida State College softball player Avery Velazquez was named to the NFCA NJCAA Division I First Team All-America team on Monday.

The freshman from Ocoee, Florida becomes the first Titan to be named an NFCA All-American team and just the fifth Titan softball player to be named an All-American.

Velazquez was 24-11 on the mound with a 1.22 ERA in 224 2/3 innings pitched. She finished with 188 strikeouts. At the plate, Velazquez hit .416 with 22 doubles, eight home runs and drove in 69 runs.

She was named the Joan Joyce Utility/Pitcher first-team All-American for NJCAA Division I which was renamed two seasons ago to honor the late NFCA Hall of Famer and pioneer of women’s sports.

Velazquez was named to the NFCA All-Region South team earlier this season and has also been named to the All-FCSAA team as well as the FCSAA All-Tournament team this season.

Eastern Florida State College finished the season 39-22 overall and went 1-2 in the FCSAA Division I Softball Championship in Clearwater.

Velazquez also became just the third Titan to be named to the NJCAA Division I All-America first team.

The freshman from Ocoee is the first Titan in over a decade to be named an all-american and joins former players Cassie Boggs and Aimee Halpin as the only players to be on the first team.

Velazquez was the utility player on the first team as she played first base and was a starting pitcher in her first season with the Titans.

Velazquez was named to the NFCA All-Region South team earlier this season and has also been named to the All-FCSAA team as well as the FCSAA All-Tournament team this season.

Pitcher Avery Velazquez also won the Rawlings Gold Glove

Velazquez has received the 2025 NJCAA Division I Rawlings Gold Glove on Wednesday afternoon.

The freshman pitcher becomes the second Titan to win the Gold Glove and the first pitcher. Velazquez finished with a .962 fielding percentage, pitching and playing first base when she wasn’t on the mound.

Overall, five of the nine Gold Gloves were given to players in Region 8.
