BREVARD COUNTY • FLORIDA – Melbourne Orlando International Airport has completed the first phase of its parking initiative, adding 120 new spaces and upgrading its popular cell phone lot.
The improvements are designed better to serve the airport’s growing number of passengers while maintaining MLB’s hallmark convenience.
The expansion follows a recent parking study that showed lots were nearing capacity during peak travel times. With the new spaces, all parking remains within easy walking distance of the terminal.
Enhancements to the cell phone lot provide a safer, more convenient waiting area for drivers picking up passengers. Located off the return-to-terminal roadway, the lot now features updated signage and QR codes for real-time flight updates, helping reduce congestion at the terminal curb.
Executive Director Greg Donovan, A.A.E., said the project reflects MLB’s focus on customer satisfaction. “Providing a positive, safe travel experience is always our top priority,” he said. “The parking expansion and cell phone lot improvements make using MLB even easier and more stress-free.”
Future phases of the initiative will continue to expand parking capacity and convenience. For more information, visit www.mlbair.com.
Honor Flight at MLB
The Space Coast gathered to honor America’s heroes on Saturday, September 6, as Melbourne Orlando International Airport hosted 50 veterans and their 50 guardians for the 85th Space Coast Honor Flight.
This milestone journey marks the first time the Honor Flight has departed from and returned to Melbourne, bringing special significance to the community event.
Community members were invited to line the route with flags, posters, and applause, creating an unforgettable moment for those who served.
The celebration is designed to be family-friendly, offering a chance for all ages to learn about and participate in recognizing the service of local veterans.
The veterans, representing service in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, will have spent the day in Washington, D.C., visiting the memorials dedicated to their sacrifice. Their return will be met with a Walk of Honor, as the airport terminal becomes a corridor of gratitude.

Space Coast Honor Flight has transported more than 2,000 veterans to the nation’s capital since its founding, with each trip providing a day of reflection, remembrance, and honor. The upcoming homecoming at Melbourne’s airport offers the public a unique opportunity to be part of that mission.
Event parking will be free, and attendees are encouraged to arrive early to ensure they are in place before the veterans walk through. Organizers say the show of community support is not only a tribute to those who served but also an enduring reminder that their sacrifices will never be forgotten.

The Melbourne Airport Authority announced in May that Space Coast Honor Flight will use Melbourne Orlando International Airport as its departure point for three Honor Flights scheduled for this year.
These charter flights, operated by Allegiant, will have all airport-associated fees waived by Melbourne Orlando International Airport in support of this meaningful initiative.
The flights are set for September 6, October 11, and November 8.
Each flight will transport 50 veterans, 50 guardians, and 12 Space Coast Honor Flight staff members to Washington, D.C., for a one-day trip to visit the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice.
Space Coast Honor Flight’s transition to Melbourne Orlando International Airport was formally announced at the meeting by Retired Rear Admiral James Hart, USN, who emphasized the operational improvements this move will bring.
“In the past, each mission was a 24-hour evolution, and by moving to MLB, we expect to reduce that to 18 hours, which will make a positive difference for vets and allow for more local community support,” said Hart.

Honor flights are organized to recognize and celebrate America’s veterans by flying them to the nation’s capital to visit memorials built in their honor.
The experience offers a day of remembrance, camaraderie, and gratitude, often leaving a lifelong impact on the participants.
“It is an honor and distinct pleasure to work with Space Coast Honor Flight,” said Greg Donovan, Executive Director of Melbourne Orlando International Airport.
“This organization is self-funded, and we encourage the community to support this cause.”
Melbourne Airport Authority Board Chairman William Potter expressed appreciation to all involved, saying, “We thank everyone for working so diligently on this important endeavor.”
