BREVARD COUNTY • FLORIDA – As of Sunday evening, October 26, the National Hurricane Center reported that Hurricane Melissa has intensified into a powerful major hurricane in the Caribbean.
The storm is currently located near latitude 16.4 north and longitude 77.3 west, moving west at approximately 5 miles per hour.
According to the latest advisory, issued at 8 p.m., Melissa is producing maximum sustained winds of 145 miles per hour with higher gusts.
The hurricane’s minimum central pressure has dropped to 933 millibars, indicating continued strengthening.
Forecasters are closely monitoring the storm’s slow westward movement and potential impacts to nearby islands and coastal regions in the coming days.
Although no immediate warnings for the United States have been issued, officials urge residents in the Caribbean and nearby areas to remain alert and follow updates from the National Hurricane Center.
