Rockledge Police Investigate Collision Between Car and Brightline Train

BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA — A car collided with a Brightline train just before 2 p.m. Friday afternoon at the Barton Boulevard and U.S. Highway 1 railroad crossing in Rockledge, according to law enforcement authorities.

Rockledge Police said the driver was exiting southbound U.S. 1 and attempting to turn west onto Barton Boulevard when he was unable to slow down in time.

The vehicle reportedly slid into the crossing arm before striking the passing train.

The impact caused extensive damage to the car, which was declared totaled at the scene. Fortunately, officials confirmed there were no major injuries to either the driver or the passenger.

Brightline dispatched a second train to the site, allowing passengers from the affected train to transfer and continue their journeys with minimal delay.

Police and Brightline crews remained on scene for some time as the area was cleared and normal rail service resumed.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved, and the crash remains under investigation.
