Merritt Island stays dominate in 2026 season

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – As the volleyball season approaches the halfway point of the season, several teams have already put themselves in position to compete for district titles. While some teams will need to face one another for playoff seeding, Brevard County has multiple programs looking to make a run at a state championship this season.
TOP HEADLINES
The Merritt Island Mustangs have dominated as expected, posting a 6-2 record near the midway point of the season. They will look to take down two prominent Florida programs, Bishop Moore and Stoneman Douglas, over the next week.
Other than their loss to Merritt Island, the Satellite Scorpions are undefeated against Brevard County teams. At 10-4, the Scorpions are ranked No. 60 in the state of Florida.
Viera has produced one of the county’s biggest turnarounds.
After finishing 12-16 a year ago, the Hawks are 10-3 this season and will attempt to finish undefeated against county opponents. Big-time matchups with Satellite and Merritt Island are looming, but the way Viera is playing suggests the Hawks are poised to make a run in the postseason.
Space Coast and Brevard HEAT have both quietly put together solid seasons. The Vipers are 8-1 and have positioned themselves to capture a district title and make a run in the playoffs. Brevard HEAT competes among the county’s best programs year after year and is doing so again this season with an 8-2 record.
Top 5 Volleyball teams in the County
No. 1 – Merritt Island Mustangs (6-2)

The Mustangs are a state contender every year and this season are trying to go back to the title game as they did a season ago and this time be on the winning side of things. With a couple of difficult matchups coming, Merritt Island should be prepared for any team they will face in the postseason.
No. 2 – Viera Hawks (10-3)

Viera has looked like a completely different team than they did a season ago, and I think most saw it coming. Last year they were a very young team, but gained a lot of valuable experience; this season they are battle-tested, and it shows. The district is going to come down to a battle with Melbourne, whom they already beat this season in a clean sweep; the Bulldogs will want revenge.
No. 3 – Satellite Scorpions (10-4)

Satellite has been impressive this season; out of their 14 games, nine have been out-of-county teams. They are 6-3 against the non-Brevard opponents, and that surely makes them more prepared for the FHSAA playoffs when that time comes. Satellite is still looking to get past Merritt Island, then their road will be a lot clearer.
No. 4 – Melbourne Bulldogs (10-3)

Melbourne has flown under the radar this season, sitting on a six-game winning streak right now. The Bulldogs’ only in-county loss came via district rivals, Viera. The district title is going to come down to the Bulldogs and the Hawks, and truly whoever pulls it out will have a good shot at making a run in the playoffs.
No. 5 – Brevard HEAT Firehawks (8-2)
