BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – As a designated Purple Star School, Space Coast Jr./Sr. High will honor the sacrifices of our nation’s heroes through a solemn and dignified tribute led by the school’s SFJROTC cadets on Friday, September 19, in observance of National Prisoner of War (POW) and Missing in Action (MIA) Recognition Day.

From 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., the POW/MIA flag will remain in continuous motion around the school’s track, symbolizing unwavering remembrance and respect for those who served and never returned.

The day will culminate in a remembrance ceremony featuring a formation of cadets and students, words of reflection, and the playing of Retreat, the National Anthem, and Taps.

Community leaders, school administration, and students will join together in this powerful moment of unity and honor.

National POW/MIA Recognition Day is an observance in the United States, held annually on the third Friday of September, to honor American Prisoners of War and Missing in Action service members, and their families.

The day was established in 1979 by a proclamation from President Jimmy Carter to remember the sacrifices of these service members and to strengthen the national resolve to account for those still missing in action.

The Space Coast Jr./Sr. High School SFJROTC is a Space Force-affiliated Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program that focuses on building character, leadership, and citizenship skills for tomorrow’s leaders.
