Florida Tech Surf Team Tames Waves In California

Panthers Finish Sixth In Nation

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech’s turned in a dazzling showing earlier this month in the National Scholastic Surfing Association’s National Interscholastic Championships in Dana Point, Calif.

Florida Tech finished sixth overall in the competition and team member Sebastian Moreno ended up ranked fifth in the College Mens’ category.

The Panthers had qualified for the national contest after doing well in the NSSA East Coast Championships in April.

This is just the third year of competition for the team.

The national competition in California included 17 teams.

Three other Florida teams participating represented Flagler College, the University of North Florida and the University of Central Florida.

Mira Costa College in Oceanside, Calif., was awarded first-place in the event.

Florida Tech’s team included graduating seniors Billy Scott, Aaron Privett, Pat Brennan, Ryan Barnett and Katie Spagnolo. Undergraduate team members are Ashley Privett and Willy Cole.

Since graduating From Florida Tech in May, Moreno has been running his own business, SeaBass Surf School, in Virginia Beach, Va.
