Police Recover Fisherman’s Body From Indian River

Incident Occurs Near Eau Gallie Causeway

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The body of a fisherman who drowned in the Indian River on Tuesday morning has been recovered and identified.

Melbourne Police Department Lt. Byron Barnes said police were called to the scene near the Eau Gallie Causeway at 6:12 a.m. Tuesday to help search for a fisherman who was believed to have fallen into the water and did not resurface.

Barnes said after a search, the body of 31-year-old Richard Paul Tarpey III of 931 Jamestown Avenue in Indian Harbour Beach was found.

“The incident is still under investigation and the cause of death is yet to be determined,” Barnes said.
