State Road 528 Accident In Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, FLORIDA – A Melbourne man is lucky to be alive this morning following an early morning collision with a dump truck in Orange County.

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes said Steven D. Carbee of Melbourne, 51, was traveling on State Road 528 near mile marker 18 in Orange County in a 1994 Ford Caravan about 4:25 a.m. Friday when he approached a 1994 dump truck driven by Juan A. Nunez of Orlando, 44.

Montes said both vehicles were driving west in the outside lane.

According to Montes, as Carbee neared the dump truck, he failed to slow or maneuver around the vehicle.

Montes said the front of Carbee’s Caravan struck the rear of the dump truck, causing both vehicles to enter the north shoulder of the roadway where they each caught on fire.

Carbee sustained minor injuries in the crash. Nunez was not hurt.

Montes said the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
