BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – The Yale Spizzwinks (?) are America’s first and oldest underclassman a cappella group.
The choir with the curious question-marked name has been entertaining audiences around the world with their unique blend of sweet harmony and tongue-in-cheek humor for generations. The group of musical young men will make a tour stop in Brevard County for two free performances on Tuesday, March 12.
You can catch them at 11 a.m. at Courtenay Springs Village in Merritt Island, 1200 S. Courtenay Parkway on Merritt Island and at 7 p.m. the group will present a second concert at Riverside Presbyterian Church in Cocoa Beach at 3400 N. Atlantic Avenue.
The choir was formed nearly 100 years ago to provide audiences with a light-hearted alternative to the Whiffenpoofs, Yale’s older, all-senior a cappella group.
Space Coast Symphony Artistic Director, Aaron T. Collins said he is delighted to sponsor the Yale Spizzwinks (?) in their limited Central Florida performances.
“These guys are just phenomenal,” said Collins. “They have incredible voices and have way too much fun in entertaining audiences. The group’s roots date back nearly 100 years, but there’s nothing old fashioned about the talent and vitality of these young singers.”
Since their historic beginning in 1914, the Spizzwinks (?) have proudly carried on a tradition of musical excellence and camaraderie as one of America’s oldest male choirs.
With one eye on their 99-year history and the other toward the future, they seamlessly fuse tradition and innovation to bring audiences a unique and unforgettable concert experience.
Three times each year, the Spizzwinks (?) pack their bags and head off to explore the world. They combine sightseeing, performing, and outreach experiences to make their travels as enriching as they are exhilarating.
