Eastern Florida Players Shine In JUCO Showcase

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FL – Four Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball players acquitted themselves well in the July 20-21 All-American JUCO Showcase Elite 80 East event in Atlanta.
Participating in the invitation-only event for players entering their sophomore years were Eastern Florida guards Torrance Rowe, Ben Patrick and Damion Smith and forward Shaheed Davis.
More than 200 NCAA Division I coaches were in attendance including Rick Pitino (Louisville), Leonard Hamilton (Florida State), Anthony Grant (Alabama), Andy Kennedy (Mississippi), Brian Gregory (Georgia Tech) and Josh Pastnor (Memphis), as well as staffs from Kansas, Baylor, Florida, Mississippi State and other high-profile programs.
ROWE LED HIS TEAM WITH 14 POINTS
Rowe, a 6-footer from Atlanta, earned a berth in the showcase’s top event, the Top 20 All-Star Game, after participating in three preliminary games.
In his first game, Rowe led his team with 14 points and eight assists. In his second game Rowe connected on seven three-pointers and finished with 25 points.
His opposition included top guards T.J. Dunans of Columbia State Community College, Jeff Newberry of New Mexico Junior College, Willlie Mangum of Baltimore City Community College and Devin Foster of Vincennes.
Patrick, 6-3 of Clearwater, FL, led the Showcase with five charges taken. His team went 4-0.
Davis, a 6-9 forward from Warren, OH, played well in his second game before an ankle injury cut his weekend short.
Smith, 6-4 of Palm Bay, FL, took advantage of his first opportunity to showcase his abilities in front of a national audience by showing flashes of his talent.
