Panthers Open Series Against Rollins With 5-3 Win

SERIES CONTINUES TODAY
WINTER PARK, FLORIDA – The second half of Sunshine State Conference play started for the Florida Tech Panthers Friday night, as they traveled to face the Tars of Rollins.

The Tars jumped out to a lead early, but the Panthers earned a 5-3 win.
Rollins (13-18, 1-12 SSC) was first on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first. Tyler Fairbanks brought home the two runs with a base hit through the left side.

Down by two, the Panthers (20-16, 4-9 SSC) answered with a run in the top of the second. Sophomore Austin Allen led the inning off with a double to left field. Allen later scored when senior Jimmie Koch sent a sacrifice fly into left.
After the Tars took a two-run lead in the bottom of the third, the Panthers rallied with three unanswered runs. Allen brought home senior Dan Bodziak with a ground-rule double that went over the fence in right field. Senior Jorge Chavarria then scored freshman Grant McKown, which gave the Panthers their first lead of the game at 4-3.
The 4-3 lead held for the Panthers, and they added to it with another run in the ninth. JuniorKevin Wortman brought Chavarria around to score with a double down the left field line. The run put the Panthers up for good at 5-3.

Junior Jerrod Leinhauser (4-3) earned the win for the Panthers. Leinhauser pitched seven innings, gave up three runs on six hits, walked four, and struck out three. Freshman Brett Porter pitched the final two innings, and earned his third save of the season.
Eric Morse (1-4) suffered the loss for the Tars. Morse pitched 7.2 innings, gave up four runs on seven hits, walked one, and struck out three.
