MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA — Earlier this week, First Baptist Church of Merritt Island hosted church leaders and members from congregations across the Space Coast to celebrate the National Day of Prayer.
The annual celebration started in 1775, when the Continental Congress designated a time for to turn to God for meditation and prayer.
Hundreds of Christians from Brevard County gathered in the sanctuary at First Baptist Merritt Island, where guest pastors included Gary Montecalvo of Destiny Baptist Church.
Led by the pastors, prayers were offered seven pillars of the community: government leaders, business leaders, school staff and students, families, members of the military, media, and the church.
