RUBIO VISITS KENNEDY SPACE CENTER

BREVARD COUNTY • KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLORIDA — During a visit to Kennedy Space Center, Senator Marco Rubio said the U.S. Space Program must be the leading Space power on earth if we want to remain the greatest nation on earth.
Rubio talked to Space Coast Daily and other media regarding the future of NASA, Mars missions, SpaceX and Commercial spaceflight.
“There has been a disconnect between the American people and the Space Program,” Rubio said. “After the Space Shuttle program ended, people outside of Florida just don’t know what the space program is doing anymore…We need to get people excited, engaged and committed to a vibrant space program.” I think the December launch [Orion capsule] will be a critical moment, because when people see that capsule leave the earth’s atmosphere, and re-enter once again, they will be reminded of what we did in the 60’s and 70’s with the Apollo program. They will be motivated to tackle that again in a new frontier, and a new frontier for our country.”
Rubio is working with Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) on a NASA Re-Authorization Act. Follow NASA and Space News at SpaceCoastDaily.com/space
