‘Flutes, Voices, Dancers of Christmas’ Set For Dec. 14

Under the direction of Nancy Clew, the Space Coast Flute Orchestra is one of the largest, regularly rehearsed flute orchestras in the world.  Comprised of nearly 40 musicians from all walks of life, the SCFO provides adult flutists of Brevard County with educational and performance opportunities, while supporting local young flutists and enriching cultural arts in the community. The all-volunteer organization is supported entirely by patron donations.
Building on a 12-year tradition of combined talent for its holiday program, the Space Coast Flute Orchestra will present, Flutes, Voices & Dancers of Christmas on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. at Suntree United Methodist Church. BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Building on a 12-year tradition of combined talent for its holiday program, the Space Coast Flute Orchestra will present, Flutes, Voices & Dancers of Christmas on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. at Suntree United Methodist Church. 

The free concert at 7400 N. Wickham Road will enchant the audience with sacred and secular music of the season arranged for flutes, along with songs by the Gloriana Singers under the direction of Dr. Robert E. Lamb, and dance numbers by the Brevard Ballet Academy.

Highlights include the march from “Nutcracker Suite,” “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” and the “Chinese Dance” by Tchaikovsky, performed by the flute orchestra and ballet dancers.

The Gloriana Singers also join the flute orchestra for Leroy Anderson’s famous “Sleigh Ride.” An audience sing-along of favorite carols will complete the program.

Under the direction of Nancy Clew, the flute orchestra is comprised of approximately 40 flutists, performing on instruments which include the piccolo and the standard concert or C-Flute.

Other more exotic members include the E-flat soprano, alto, bass, contra-alto and contrabass. The concert is  free to the public, with donations gratefully accepted.
