POLICE: Currently No Connection Between the Crash and the Homicide Case

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police Homicide Detectives are investigating a traffic incident involving Amber Maltese, 37, the daughter of homicide victim Alfred G. Megathlin.

Melbourne police identified Alfred G. Megathlin, 60, as the man discovered dead on Saturday morning at a condominium located at 2334 Golf Lake Circle in Melbourne. (See below stories)

According to the Melbourne Police Department, Maltese deliberately crashed her 2015 Toyota pickup into a Melbourne police car as she traveled westbound on Eau Gallie Boulevard at John Rhodes Boulevard in the early morning hours of February 28.

According to police, there is currently no connection between the crash and the homicide case.

After crashing into the patrol car, Maltese fled the scene and continued westbound with police in pursuit. The suspect then headed southbound on I-95 and accelerated to speeds up to 110 mph, according to police.

With the assistance of the Indian River County Sheriff Department, the vehicle was stopped and Maltese was taken into custody.

Police said that Maltese, upon colliding with the police vehicle, accelerated, pushing the patrol car off the roadway.

Neither officer was injured in the crash.

After crashing into the patrol car, Maltese fled the scene and continued westbound with police in pursuit. The suspect then headed southbound on I-95 and accelerated to speeds up to 110 mph, according to police.

With the assistance of the Indian River County Sheriff Department, the vehicle was stopped and Maltese was taken into custody.

She was booked into the Indian River County jail on multiple charges including Aggravated Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, DUI, Aggravated Fleeing/Attempting to Elude with Property Damage and Driving while License was Suspended.

Melbourne PD Identifies Alfred Megathlin As Homicide Victim

At about 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, officers received a request to check on a resident who possibly needed medical attention.

Officers arrived on the scene and made entry into the condo where a man was found dead, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Police Department is actively investigating a suspicious death as a homicide at a condominium located at 2334 Golf Lake Circle in Melbourne, according to Melbourne police. (See map below)

At about 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, officers received a request to check on a resident who possibly needed medical attention.

Officers arrived on the scene and made entry into the condo where a man was found dead, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

The victim’s name has not be released pending notification of next of kin.
