BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA — The Space Coast Cancer Foundation’s 9th Annual Daffodil Gala to benefit Brevard County cancer patients in need of financial support was a tremendous success on Saturday evening.
Held at the spectacular new Terminal 1 at Port Canaveral, the elegant and enjoyable Gala sponsored by VITAS Innovative Hospice Care was attended by more than 200 generous guests from all walks of life.
The guests were dressed in Rock-N’-Roll themed clothing and the silent auction, dancing and delicious food was enjoyed by all in attendance.
Vitas Innovative Hospice Care was the gala’s Presenting Daffodil Sponsor. The Space Coast Cancer Foundation is the fundraising and charitable arm of Space Coast Cancer Center, which houses a comprehensive network of services so patients may concentrate on their road to recovery.
“This has been a wonderful evening and we are so pleased and grateful with the support from our friends from the community,” said Dr. Richard Levine, Space Coast Cancer Foundation chairman and president of Space Coast Cancer Center.
“We would like to thank all the sponsors who gave so generously and the very giving people that attended.”
Dr. Richard Levine founded the Space Coast Cancer Foundation in 2006 with a mission to assist cancer patients and their caregivers in the local community with the financial and emotional demands that are associated with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
To further that goal, each year the Space Coast Cancer Center Foundation presents the Daffodil Gala, which is a celebration of life for cancer patients and those who have been touched by the disease.
Dr. Levine, the Space Coast Cancer Foundation chairman, and president of Space Coast Cancer Center, has been in Brevard County since 1983.
He has a deep connection with the community and still maintains regular contact with patients from his first year in practice.
“They have become family,” said Dr. Levine.
Voncile Franklin, president of the Cove Merchants Association was delighted to have the Daffodil Gala at the port.
“This is always one of the highlights of the year as far as fundraising parties and we are proud to be able to host it at the port this year,” said Franklin.
Mike Schwarz, owner of Fishlips Waterfront Restaurant at the port echoed those sentiments.
“This new facility (Terminal 1) is now one of the biggest and best venues of it’s kind in Brevard and we’re thrilled to have super events like this come to the Port,” said Schwarz.
