BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Lieutenant Jason Smith is the consensus choice for Firefighter of the month for March 2016.

Lt. Smith has displayed an exemplary attitude and work ethic while coordinating training for Palm Bay Fire Rescue (PBFR).

He has become the preeminent medical training instructor for PBFR and has taken the lead on available teaching opportunities, above and beyond his Lieutenant position.

An example of Lt. Smith’s exemplary attitude is shown as he coordinated the upcoming trauma/hemorrhage course that will be provided by Health First and First Flight, exclusively for PBFR.

Lt. Smith is a member of the First Flight Air Crew Medical Team and is bringing new lifesaving training to the Department, along with the introduction of the innovative C.A.T tourniquet.

In addition to providing outside training opportunities, he also had a more prominent role in preparing new Paramedics to acquire their “solo” status.

He will meet with and evaluate the Paramedic’s progress and readiness.  Lt. Smith continues to teach in-house ACLS and CPR courses and has become quite adept at taking complex medical principals and procedures and explaining them so even the basic EMT can comprehend the concepts, and in turn deliver better Emergency Medical Services to the public we serve.

Lt. Smith continues work as a combat officer where he displays his wealth of medical knowledge and a strong command presence in the field.

Recently Lt. Smith encountered a complexed medical patient and displayed his advanced knowledge and skill in recognizing the particular diagnosis of the patient, delivering the appropriate treatment modality, and using the call as a teaching opportunity for his crew, and staff of the medical facility.
