Pitcher Cody Ponce, Infielder Fidel Pena Named Brevard County Manatees Of The Month

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA , FLORIDA –Each month the Brevard County Manatees name a position player and a pitcher that was a top performer at their respective position. In July, those players were pitcher Cody Ponce and catcher/utilityman Fidel Pena.

On the mound, Cody Ponce was named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 4-10. In the month of the July, Ponce started six games and went 2-1 with a 2.90 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP.

Over 31 innings pitched, Ponce also had a 33:6 strikeout to walk ratio.

Fidel Pena was quietly one of the key players for the Manatees offense during the month of July. Pena batted .333 (20-for-60) with a home run and a team-high 12 RBI in 17 games for the Manatees.

Over the course of the 2016 season, Pena has served as a utility man for Brevard County, as in 83 games played he has been in the line-up at catcher, first base, third base and second base.
