Cocoa Police Investigate Shooting That Happened During Illegal Drug Transaction

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa police officers are investigating a shooting that appears to be drug related.

According to Cocoa Police Public Information Officer Yvonne Martinez, at approximately 7 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the intersection of Fiske Boulevard and State Road 520 for reports of a shooting.

Officers located a vehicle with multiple bullet holes and a flat tire.

A short distance away near Blake Avenue and State Road 520, a second vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting was also located. The occupants of both vehicles fled and have not been located.

“According to witnesses, a disturbance began in the county jurisdiction west of Cocoa,” said Martinez.

“Witnesses described an illegal drug transaction in which an argument began and a gun was used to threaten one of the individuals involved.”

The occupants of two vehicles fled east on State Road 520. When the vehicles crossed the intersection of Fiske Boulevard, shots were fired.

Officers have not located anyone with injuries as a result of the shooting and the investigation is ongoing.
