(FOX NEWS) – Donald Trump says he has received the backing of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick.

The billionaire told a crowd at a rally in Manchester, New Hampshire that the NFL stars had backed his campaign, saying Brady had called him to say he’d voted for him.

“Tom Brady, great guy, great guy. Great guy, great friend of mine — great, great champion. Unbelievable winner,” Trump said. “He called today and he said, ‘Donald, I support you, you’re my friend, and I voted for you.’”

He added that Belichick had sent him “the most beautiful” letter congratulating him and wishing him luck.

He says the Patriots head coach also commended the way he’d handled “an unbelievable negative and slanted media.”

“By the way, is there a better reference than Tom Brady and Bill Belichick?” he later asked the crowd. “I don’t think so.”

“They’re friends of mine, and great champions,” Trump told Fox and Friends Tuesday.
