Attempted Robbery Suspect Shot Dead After Armed Confrontation With BCSO Deputy In Cape Canaveral

BREVARD COUNTY • CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – A Brevard County Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in a shooting Sunday night after units responded to a call of an attempted robbery at 211 Caroline St. in Cape Canaveral, according to Tod Goodyear of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred around 8:19 p.m.
Upon arrival, deputies located the suspect that had fled the attempted robbery scene.
Police say the suspect was shot during the armed confrontation and transported to Cape Canaveral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Goodyear.
“The subject (suspect) turned on our deputies with the firearm, and our deputies fired to protect themselves and those around him,” said Sheriff Wayne Ivey.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing as investigators are interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence at the scene.
At this time, the Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the names of the deputy or suspect involved in the incident.
Brevard County Sheriff’s Office says the deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave which is customary in officer involved shootings.
